Building your Hero takes just a few minutes!

  1. Choose your Role.

Role:

First, select your Role. Your Role is what makes you ‘you’; it’s the thing that really stands out about you. This isn’t an exhaustive list, but it’s a good start! Of course, not all Roles are appropriate for all games, so check with the Director before having a talking dog show up in their 1920s gangster game.

2. Assign Stats.

Remaining:

Your Hero has four Stats: Smarts, Moves, Style, and Brawn. You have 12 points to divide between these four Stats in any way you wish, but you cannot put more than 5 in a Stat, and no Stat can be less than 2.

3. Pick some Focuses. Foci. Whatever.

A Focus is an area of expertise or special talent. For each Stat, choose one Focus. For example, your Smarts Focus might be History, or your Moves Focus might be Shooting.

4. Defence & Health.

Defence:

Health:

Ugh. Math! Don’t worry, there’s only two bits of math.

  • Your Defence is your Moves x 3. Add 6 if your Moves Focus is Dodging. The lowest your Defence can be is 8.

  • Your Health is equal to your Brawn. Add 2 if your Brawn Focus is Tough.

That wasn’t so bad, was it?

5. Pick a Trait.

Trait

Finally, you should choose a Trait. While your Role gives you a special ability, your Trait introduces a complication. Oh, and one more thing—no two Heroes in your group can have the same Trait! That would just be boring, and we don’t want that do we? Celebrate the variety and enjoy your differences! Select one of these, or choose your own!

6. Gear.

You have all the regular stuff that your Role would suggest. If you’re a Soldier, you have a rifle and uniform; if you’re a Samurai, you have a sword. Whoever you are, you almost certainly have underpants.
